Bellingham, WA

Beautiful Bellingham! What a trip it was to go back after 13 years. You know when you are young and you see a place for the first time and you keep it locked away in your mind some where as this fantastical place you would love to live in one day? Well, this was my place. I always dreamed of going to Western Washington University simply due to its beautiful location. There really isn't a better word to describe Washington than MAJESTIC! The nature is awe-inspiring.

I think the reasons I love it so much is because it has the same feel as a quaint little college town on the East coast that has always been another dream of mine to live near—New Haven. The University is nestled in the most beautiful green valley overlooking the pacific ocean. I love that it is so close to the water; I love seeing all of the sailboats docked in the harbor. I also love that there are so many WONDERFUL restaurants/shops unique to the city. We only had room in our bellies for ONE restaurant—Coconut Kenny's— but there were so many more places I wanted to gorge myself at :). After touring around the campus we got lunch at Coconut Kenny's and Mike and I were seriously in heaven for about half an hour. I am not a crazy fan of pizza but this was the most incredible pizza I have ever had. Mike, who LOVES pizza, agreed! I wish I had a video camera to record his face while eating; every bit was a "What About Bob" experience"—"mmmmm" "mmmmm". I can't even describe how delicious it was. They make everything on their Hawaiian sweet bread, which must be the secret to all of the amazing goodness that melts in your mouth. I ordered a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, which also came on a HUGE Hawaiian sweet bun. If that wasn't enough, we stuffed ourselves with the most amazing, mouth watering, warm Hawaiian cinnamon/sugar balls served with creamy vanilla ice cream. DIVINE! It is a place Mike and I will crave—up there with Rib City and Firehouse Subs.

After lunch we drove around and checked out some of the neighborhoods and then we ventured down towards the waterfront. Gorgeous—the water was so beautiful. We were so fortunate the weather cleared for us today and that we had blue skies and sun! It was perfect!

We walked around downtown Bellingham and went through some of the shops and restaurants and then we drove to Whatcom Falls park, which is about a mile outside of the city. Such a cool park—tons of trails, bridges, a beautiful waterfall, and a swimming hole with great cliff jumping.

Me showing my best "W" for WWU, and Mike giving a shout out to me :).

It was one of the most wonderful days I have had in a very, very long time. Mike made me laugh all day till my gut was sore. I love laughing, I love good food, I love wonderful company, and I love seeing this beautiful world—I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.

Here are pics of Bellingham, some are of places I still want to go too and things I would LOVE to do before we leave:

San Juan Islands (one of the top places to visit in the world before you die)

\

Vancouver, BC (another one of my favorite places in the world; I want Mike to experience it)

"Ski to Sea": (I would LOVE to do this):

From the top of Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay, discover Whatcom County's recreational playground and the 'Ski to Sea' Experience. The Ski to Sea Festival consists of a 90 mile relay race of seven venues encompassing seven different sports, a historical hometown parade, and other special events provide a wide variety of entertainment and adventure for all who participate. A Ski to Sea Race team consists of 8 racers (2 in the canoe leg) for the seven race legs (Cross Country Ski; Downhill Ski/Snowboard; Running; Road Bike; Canoe; Mountain Bike; Kayak). A racer can only be on one team, and only complete one leg. We also recommend a support team to carpool the team to the different race leg venues.

Mt. Baker (isn't this cabin so picturesque!)??

Other Places I want to eat!
